Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 2025

1. Who we are

Hookset is a social fishing app that lets you log catches, share with friends, and join competitions. This policy describes how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our app and services.

2. Information we collect

We collect information you provide and data generated by your use of the app:

  • Account data: email, password (stored securely), display name/username, and optionally first name, last name, and date of birth.
  • Profile data: profile photo, bio, home location, and privacy preferences.
  • Catches and content: fish species, weight, length, photos, location of catch, notes, and posts.
  • Usage data: how you use the app; our infrastructure provider may log IP and similar technical data.

3. How we use your information

We use your information to create and manage your account, provide the app (feed, catches, groups, competitions, forecasts), apply your privacy settings, send essential service messages, improve the app, and comply with law. We do not sell your data.

4. Sharing and third parties

We do not sell your personal data. We share data with service providers (e.g. Supabase for hosting, database, auth, storage) who process on our instructions, with other users according to your privacy settings, and where required by law.

5. Data retention

We keep your data while your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data in line with our practices and legal obligations; some data may remain in backups for a limited period.

6. Your rights

You may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can update much of your data in the app; for other requests contact us via the Support page. You may also complain to a data protection authority.

7. Security and children

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data. Hookset is not directed at children under 13; we do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

8. International transfers and changes

Your data may be processed outside your country; we use appropriate safeguards where required. We may update this policy; we will post the updated version and indicate the date. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance where permitted by law.

9. Contact

For privacy questions, access or deletion requests, or complaints, contact us via the Support page or the contact details in the app store listing. We will respond in line with applicable law.

This policy is designed to meet disclosure expectations for the Apple App Store and Google Play.
